Structuring the Living Space

in conversation Umberto Bonomo, Sebastian Irarrázaval and Ricardo Bezanilla

The Oruga House, built in 2012 on the outskirts of Santiago, based on the project by the architect Sebastián Irarrázaval, is one of the most notable projects of contemporary Chilean residential architecture. Its recognisable form is a result of the configuration of the land, a specific suburban context,
impressive views over the Andes landscape and the shipcontainer construction. However, the most crucial role in creating this unique living space belongs to the architect and the client, who collaborated closely. Umberto Bonomo spoke to the designer Sebastián Irarrázaval and the owner Ricardo Bezanilla about the house, and other architectural topics.
